Football playoff capsule: JCA at Cahokia

Playoff history: JCA is in the playoffs for the 33rd time, including 12th in succession. The Hilltoppers are 92-19 in playoff games and have won 13 state titles and finished second twice.

Cahokia is in for the 16th time, including seventh in succession, and is 15-15 in playoff games.

The rundown: Cahokia quarterback Patrick Ivy is a major concern for JCA. The 6-3, 195-pound senior with a strong arm is being recruited by Purdue, SIU and MAC schools. A primary Ivy target, wide receiver Jimmie Hunt, has committed to Missouri. Ivy completed 13-of-22 passes for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns in last week's 30-0 victory over East Peoria, days after the death of his stepfather cast a doubt on whether he would play at all.

But while the Hilltoppers defense will be tested, so, too, will the potent JCA offense. Cahokia, champion of the South Seven Conference, has an array of athletes on the defensive side of the ball and has shut out four opponents.

The Comanches also beat 7A playoff team O'Fallon 8-3 in Week 1, and their only loss was 20-6 to defending state champ Sacred Heart-Griffin in Week 9.

JCA leads the Joliet area in total offense, averaging 397.7 yards per game, and in rushing offense at 315.5.

The Hilltoppers are minus 11 for the season in turnover margin but were plus 2 in last week's 48-7 victory over Troy Triad, a positive sign.

Up next: JCA would host Washington or Sterling.
